Yesterday I went for my first meal out with a friend since having my daughter. We sat outside in the sunshine, I had grilled “chicken” breast in jerk gravy, pineapple and plantain and some virgin Piña Coladas and it was wonderful.
Also, I know there’s loads of people out there that don’t like / don’t get the whole vegans/veggies eating stuff that looks and tastes like meat but when I went vegan in 2014 the options when eating out were chips, a three bean chilli or a chickpea curry if you were lucky. Not that these options aren’t nice, but it’s good to have a bit of variety.
@charllthomas that's such a nonsense sentiment, isn't it? Vegan alternatives that "fake" familiar dishes/ingredients go a long way to convince people that they don't have to make a massive change to reduce/stop eating meat. And I'm not even vegan, but it'll be seitan, veg haggis and Magic Meat™ that'll convert me sooner or later
@casstr Vegan haggis is great! The Macsweens one and homemade. I feel like the thing that makes haggis nice in the first place is all the seasonings anyway, not really the animal entrails.
@charllthomas very much so, I regularly get the Macsweens one whenever I need a whole haggis to cook with. Can't recommend nachos with haggis enough!
@casstr Yeah to be fair I can kinda of see that working - in place of the crumbled mine presumably? Interesting idea for Mexican-Scottish fusion cuisine
@charllthomas not particularly rare or unique: haggis pakoras are very common, so is haggis as a topping for pizza or poutine or burgers.
