Some #DepecheMode came up in my playlist while I was out running errands, which reminded me of one of my early #ballet masters and how she'd have us do all our #barre work to "Never Let Me Down Again." Absolutely loved her.
I went through a phase about 2 years ago where #DepecheMode was all I listened to for about 3 months straight. Particularly Broken Frame through Violator.
Out of that I think the song is listened to most were "Told You So," super catchy pop song, and "World in my Eyes," excellent moody stuff.
It's easy to hear simple superficial pop in a lot of their songs on first impression but the complexity of the arrangements is actually very deep when paying attention.
@buru5 Great songs, those. I think Gore is self taught on the piano, but he has an inmate sense of musicality. Something in the balance between his tenor and Gahan's baritone always seems to surface in the arrangements as well. One of my first "favorite" bands as a young person--and weirdly almost always good for classical dance.
there are a lot of groups that are *similar* to DM but i have not been able to find one that truly captures the essence as well as they do. recently i came across a group called Black Marble, their 3rd album comes close to the same #DaRKWaVe feel although a bit poppier
@buru5 Ooh, I really enjoyed that. New to me--I'll definitely do some digging around Bandcamp for others. Not as despairing in tone, maybe? Thanks for sharing.
