By golly it has been fun having this family of Cooper’s Hawks in the neighborhood. I miss our song birds, but I’m saving gobs of money in bird feed.
I took this with my iPhone .

On Sunday evening I saw a flash of wing outside the mostly closed curtains. You can imagine my surprise to pull them back and see this guy staring me down. We have a family in a nearby tree. Their babies are quite vocal!
Shot on iPhone, through a dirty window.
Bonus shot: the hummingbird likes to sit in the elm tree before and after she eats. :3
I don't have an explanation for why it looks like some of the coral honeysuckle flowers are moving at high speed, but today's very belated, very small friend is this female ruby-throated hummingbird, who I just barely managed to get in the frame.
Look at the tiny blep!

I really love the the yellow-orange non-standard House Finches

The Jackdaw I mistook for a hooded crow was back this week - and there were actually two of them.

While the previous bird turned out to be an Eurasian Jackdaw, this one is definitively a crow!

@Ostdrossel I don't put out suet blocks because they melt so quickly in the heat where I live. But I have found that stuffing suet cages with grapes attracts our Gila Woodpeckers just as well as suet would. The House Finches and the occasional Northern Mockingbird, Abert's Towhee, and Hooded Oriole also like them. So far no Starlings have made it to my yard, though I see them in the neighborhood sometimes.
