@greycat @godpod EXACTLY!

And they should only be paid for the time they are actually working, not a second more!

Also every kind of income should be taxed like #WageWork and #BuyBorrowDie needs to be criminalized as illegal #TaxDodging and #SocialSecurityFraud!

A quotation from Lincoln

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure.

Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) American lawyer, politician, US President (1861-65)
Speech (1863-11-19), “Dedication of the National Cemetery at Gettysburg [Gettysburg Address],” Pennsylvania

Sourcing, notes: wist.info/lincoln-abraham/7562…

“This is devastating for American education & our students -will strip students of equitable education, place our most vulnerable at great risk & set back educational success that for many will last their lifetimes."

~1,300 of the #ED Dept’s ~4,000 employees were told Tues they'd be laid off & placed on admin. leave starting Mar 21 *final day: Jun 9.

The civil rights div had about 550 employees *among the most heavily affected by Tues' layoffs.

Here's my idea about a peaceful society :boost_ok: .

Way I figure it, whatever your -ism, you have to obtain three things:

1) Social equality - if your society has large wealth disparities or exclusion along social or economic lines, then it will not be peaceful.

2) Suppression of hateful and violent thought. I don't mean thought police, as such. I figure an anarchist society might also achieve this, it just requires a certain philosophical maturity from all participants. Thought comes before action. By the time people are acting on their violent ideas, it's already late in the game, and your society won't be peaceful again for a while. Shunning has always been an effective method for getting people to align with the demands of the collective.

3) Ecological mastery. This means to not cause ecological disasters, and to prepare against and recover from ecological disasters with great skill. If you cannot live in harmony with the world, you will live in conflict with the world, and then your society will not be peaceful.

Basically Freezepeach capitalism is the worst possible combination of features for ever having a peaceful society, making all three aspects impossible.

Please @ me.

Amidst all the cowardice, some real tales of courage are emerging. Karen Ortiz is tasked with safeguarding the equal employment rights of #LGBT people, and she is not backing down.

She wrote a fiery email refusing to stop representing those workers, and they punished her and took away her email for a week.

But the email made it onto the internet, where she is rightly being hailed as a hero.

AP News · Meet the federal worker who went rogue: ‘I hope that it lights a fire under people’By Claire Savage

Hi #Mastodon! I am so glad to be here. #introduction

I am a #Lightworker and #spiritual #activist. My interests include: the #environment , #politics, #society, #equality , #justice , #acceptance , #trans and #women #rights, plus #religion (all kinds).

I'd like to use #Light and #healing to restore balance to #America .

I believe strongly that we must accept one another and work toward compromise to move our country forward. These days of #hate and #Darkness must end.

I have an idea for a TV show called.
AUSTRALIA'S STRONGEST MAN!
The show will consist of a number of challenges.
Working in childcare.
Working as a nurse in hospital.
Teaching a class 8 year olds.
Working in a retirement home.
For the duration of the show, every 3 hours we interrupt the contestant's sleep. After challenges are done contestants have to cook for the entire crew, as well as wash up after them and clean and tidy the accommodation.
- Of course we don't tell the constants, in advance, what the challenges will be, so we get the most macho types applying.
See who can last just one week!

I think it's time for a re-introduction!

Hello fediverse! I am an admin for Veganism.Social, VoIP engineer, sim-racer with @ethixracing, gamer, foodie, and long-time ethical vegan. I'm originally from South Florida, but now living in the Orlando area as of 2020. I'm usually not a very social person, but I'm trying to change that! I want to make a difference in the world, and one person cannot do that alone, so connecting with others is essential.

My political and ethical views are all centered around equality, compassion, and environmental protection. I am anti-capitalist, but I also understand that it's impossible in the current state of society to avoid participating in it. So I try to make the best decisions I can with the options given to me in order to minimize the harm it causes.

Humans and animals all over the world are facing troubling times, and thinking about it has taken a massive toll on my mental health. Now, I am trying to focus my efforts on things that I can change, rather than spreading myself too thin and not helping at all. This doesn't mean I'm ignoring all of the other suffering, but simply trying to prioritize based on what is within my reach.

Thank you for taking the time to read, and if you feel like we have something in common, give a follow! I look forward to meeting like-minded individuals and organizations that seek to make the world a better place!

For a bit more info about myself and my sim-racing efforts, check out this interview I did with @veganeasy last year.

Today is International Women’s Day, a time for people across the world to celebrate in a variety of ways. “Some festivities are commemorating the achievements of women, others are protesting in an effort to end gender inequalities and gender-based violence,” Rebecca Schneid writes. Read more in her article for @time:

But does the day honor women equally? “Today, there will be an attempt to erase Palestinian women once again because their plight is politically inconvenient for Western feminism,” reads the subhead in Maryam Aldossari’s article for @AlJazeera:
