Always a good time to remind folks, the Salvation Army has rules that explicitly forbid providing help to queer folk. They're a terrible, bigoted organization.
is it the US Salvation Army?
The uk one seems to say the right things on their website?
Or is it a case of say one thing, do another?

@GrayGooGirl this has been true in the past but they (the US SA website) explicitly say they will help anyone. There have been reports, years ago, that they insist on queer couples breaking up before providing that support. What’s your source for saying they have explicit instructions not to help queer people?
@ekarnowski @GrayGooGirl
I've seen this repeated many times and I'm sure it has been true in the past - but now I don't know
I looked at the SA website and they have anecdotes of LGBT people they've helped, even if two of the three links i clicked on for supporting evidence went to a 404 error page.
@ekarnowski @GrayGooGirl >they have in the past
no more information needed! Fingers crossed they go out of business sooner than later.
@valdezWOOF @GrayGooGirl really? No more info needed? People can change. Even organizations like this can change. They are trying to be better. They have done good work and helped many queer people in need. Do some reading, get more information before dismissing them.
@ekarnowski @GrayGooGirl there are better orgs to shill for dude
@valdezWOOF @GrayGooGirl I won’t argue with that, I don’t give money to SA either. but it doesn’t mean they’re not useful.
@valdezWOOF @GrayGooGirl but my point of speaking up in the first place was an unsubstantiated claim, that I still have not seen any evidence for. I hate that the Republicans make outlandish claims without evidence. I won’t accept it from people on my side of things either, and neither should you. Blast them for true things, not things that are made up.
@GrayGooGirl I just sent them a nastygram when they sent a letter to my (deceased) mom asking for money. I love my GLBTQ friends. You don't. No money for you"
@GrayGooGirl they refused to help me once when I was about to become homeless, and as a consequence, I did become homeless. Terrible organization.
@GrayGooGirl @lisamelton Is this still true? The US #SalvationArmy website specifically calls out their support of LGBTQ+ community and people in need.

@GrayGooGirl They are, and always have been, primarily missionaries.
@GrayGooGirl
It's a religious organization, even more so than Chick-fil-A.
@GrayGooGirl@mstdn.games In Australia they're also the largest beneficiaries of our slave labour workfare program. Just an absolutely horrible organisation.
@GrayGooGirl Also their bands are shit
@sentient_water @GrayGooGirl That salvenation army song by the White Stripes is pretty good.
@GrayGooGirl I get stuff from their food bank regularly. What they don't know can't hurt them.
@GrayGooGirl Is this the Salvation Army in the US? Are they different from the AU crowd?
Asking because I've donated to them here in Australia before, _after_ checking their position on LGBTQ aid recipients, & thought they were okay. Now concerned they're not.
