Regarding GUN4ALL developments today, I'm at a bit of a weird crossroads here.
I legit do not even know how to use #MAMEHOOKER - as in, from a user's perspective. How does it work for Gun4IR? Is there a repo of ini files to use it with games? How does DemulShooter fit in it all,and what are the common inputs I'm supposed to be expecting on the gun side?
I can't ask the Gun4IR community because I don't own one.
And when I tried asking the Sinden community, they were... less than well receptive.
I don't think I can stress this enough, how *fucking FRUSTRATING* the rest of the not-open-source arcade/lightgun community has been.
Whether it's the surveysplaining with TP about having BASIC courtesy for Linux users (https://mstdn.games/@ThatOneSeong/111025872544592263), to the fact that general knowledge about lightguns are all scattered and locked away behind exclusive cliques that makes it so god damn hard not just to use, but for open projects like mine to even implement so that I can COMPETE.
It's frustrating that it's so sad, and it's sad that it's so frustrating.
Sad because I HAVE IT WORKING. I KNOW this feature CAN work! Now just TELL ME WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR. MAMEHOOKER's documentation has ZILCH about this! How am I supposed to implement a feature without knowing how it's supposed to work???
rant the second
@Velveteen In FAIRNESS when I said I was working on a project, I maybe could've added "open source" to it and maybe they'd understand I'm not trying to make a competing thing I'm charging money for which MAY be corpo espionage? The whole thing is public.
But also like, fuck, I just wasn't willing to argue even though the notion that my little indie project to play funny gun video games is somehow liable to get me sued for trade secrets... or something.
