finally a meaningful choice in #InfiniteSpace; alas, selecting "show him no mercy" doesn't do anything except loop back to the choice selection screen.
"you wouldn't actually kill me, would you?!"
yes, i would.
selecting "show him no mercy" three times forces "spare his life" as if the game is just like "stop, it's not happening. there is no real choice here."
sneaky way to make player think game has more narrative depth than it does. most would select "spare his life," and those that do will go on to believe that the game gave them a choice here, when it didn't.
#jrpgs are notorious for this; learned this early on as a kid as I have a habit of picking the most contrary possible choices. even simple "you'll help me with this won't you? y/n" is almost never a real choice, selecting "no" is always a "hahaha you're so funny, c'mon let's go"
in this way, jrpgs are much like #RealLife in that there are seemingly many choices.
"oh you don't like your job? just quit"
"rent too expensive in your area? just move"
@buru5 haha yes, too true. So many of us are trapped by circumstance and have no actual options.
@buru5 I need to somehow move to a place with no neighbours connected to my walls due to my mental health, but it's very costly and I can't work on my projects to raise my income because I'm too stressed out by the threat of noise and it's a self defeating loop, and of course all other potential options have been exhausted. I'm lucky that I have a secure home and at no risk of losing it and am grateful for that, but I'm still not living a life that benefits me and others.
@buru5 Rather than giving you the illusion of choice, they have taken the liberty of choooosing for you.
