Robert Smith "We didn’t allow dynamic pricing because it’s a scam that would disappear if every artist said, ‘I don’t want that!’ But most artists hide behind management. ‘Oh, we didn’t know,’ they say. They all know. If they say they do not, they’re either f***ing stupid or lying. It’s just driven by greed.”
“If people save on the tickets, they buy beer or merch. There is goodwill, they will come back next time. It is a self-fulfilling good vibe..."
@chris I haven't been to a concert since my teens. Recently, I looked up some shows thinking "wouldn't this be fun" for my partner and I only to realize that concerts simply aren't affordable at all. I don't know how normal people do it.
@chris Big enough artists could arm twist the venues if they wanted to...
@chris For the record labels good will is only something to take a write-down on when they squander it.
@chris Why don't they just say "the ticket price is $$$ incl. fees and we want $$" and tickets may not be resold or auctioned for any higher price than ours. If a refund is requested a day before the concert, the total amount incl. 1/2 fees is to be refunded (not for bulk-buyers). Deal with it or we pick someone else to sell the tickets.
If they decline, pick another seller. Even it runs worse with that one, doesn't matter. Show them the sellers are not in charge, but you, the artist.
@chris Well said Robert Smith... As a life-long fan of The Cure, I appreciate this public statement. And he's spot-on in saying that keeping ticket prices down means that fans can buy merch and be more willing to see the band again.
