handmade ghost

Here's to the last day of , which, where I live, has been one long string of winter storms with occasional pearls of sunshine.

Here is a tiny marshlet I love near the mouth of the local river (and actually at the edge of a suburban neighborhood). It's like a meditative garden for all the birds that live nearby. Here, perhaps, is a standing .

Photo of a small corridor of wetland. The photo is predominantly a just-leaving-winter-behind yellow-green: There is a still pool outlet from the mouth of a river you can just see in the distance under an overhang of angled trees and "hall" of sedge and other grasses. There is a sort of raft of grasses matted down and forming a floor along the right side and bottom of the pool. Standing on the matted sedge is a great egret--a tall, white, slender heron--neck curved in an "S" and looking left, out across the reeds and water.
This is a much-zoomed-in close-up that is essentially identical to the other photo, showing the great egret (who fills about a third of the photo) standing on the matted reeds, the dark green pool of water and the corridor to the mouth of the river in the background. Closer up, you can see the sort of blueish tinge around the lores, like a bit of eyeliner below the eye that extends to the golden bill. E looks calm, focused, and, because I might as well keep anthropomorphizing, meditative, looking out to the left across the marshlet.
