Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour: An Introduction by J. D. Salinger #books #literature #dedication
I've still got some final editing to do on my upcoming novel, HUMAN, but it should be published this winter. I now have the blurb written for it though!
A remarkable exploration of family, society, and what makes us human, HUMAN will take you from the post-apocalyptic world of the near future, to the two very different societies that emerge 15 million years later, where those few surviving individuals have evolved to become something that we might not fully recognize as human.
When Ayla’s research takes her to a remote river in Canada’s far north, Chris brings their daughter to an isolated island in the southern Pacific. Though at opposite ends of the earth, they both awaken one morning to black skies, and a night that doesn’t end. Slowly, Ayla and Chris begin to realize that humanity has been inexplicably wiped out, and only their isolation has saved them. Besides the handful of people around them, they are now alone in the world. As they struggle to build new ways to live, they must also struggle with how to let go of their past.
Millions of years later, when their descendants finally meet, they have evolved to become two very different kinds of humans, with two very different civilizations. As each tries to build a better world for themselves, navigating love, loss, betrayal and success within their own societies, their biggest challenge may be to recognize the humanity of the other.
On the days where you feel all hope is lost, this might help.
You won't be able to find a three act structure, the pacing isn't ideal, some might even find it dry and not sentimental enough - but it matters not.
Most true stories aren't about eliciting emotions. They are emotions.

Právě dočteno.
Pokud hledáte netradiční fantasy, tak by vás možná mohla zaujmout tahle post-apo fantasy s indiánskou mytologií. Kniha navíc získala Locus Award 2019 v kategorii Nejlepší románový debut, nominaci na Huga a hlavní cenu Locus a World Fantasy Award.
Pro mě osobně se jedná o jeden ze slabších kousků z nakladatelství Gnóm, ale přesto tahle kniha stojí za pozornost.

Wrote a #BookReview of the Monk& Robot series by Becky Chambers. A beautiful, healing #solarpunk story that made me cry because I loved it so much
It's an exploration & celebration of a beautiful world, the characters’ lives, thriving communities, nature, and the magic of the ordinary.
It’s a journey, first through the wilderness, and later through solarpunk villages and a city. 1/

I just finished reading Paul Auster’s The New York Trilogy. On this occasion, I discovered a new use for ChatGPT and LLMs.

Chapter 12 - "Doctor Klunis"
Files by the colony's chief scientist have been unearthed and, although fragmentary, they detail the purpose of the colony. But the truth behind the colony is more sinister than Ellen Voight had anticipated.

> 100 Best Books of the 21st Century
https://archive.ph/e4aBw via #NYT.
For kicks, I checked. I've only read 4 of these, and 2 were graphic novels. TBH, given this is mostly a hoity toity list of lit fiction and other pretentious #books, I am at peace. I already read plenty, just not what the NYT deems "best." YMMV.
