One of the last great egrets to leave this summer's nesting colony. #EgretsIveHadAFew
This is a view of one of the dozen or so towering Ponderosa pines of the local egret rookery as seen from across the park. (The closer photos I've taken are from a trail that winds along behind these trees, but even from this distance the sound is glorious and uncanny.)
There are easily a hundred egrets up there, many of them currently babies or juveniles. There are also at least two great blue heron nests, but those birds blend into the blue-green of the pines more easily so can't be seen at a distance.)
I think I can promise this is the last set of egrets I'll post today. Thanks to everyone who indulged me. #EgretsIveHadAFew

I was making a sound recording of those dozens and dozens of juvenile egrets up in the pines on Tuesday, and after cycling through "Birds," and "Wind" a few times, the automatic transcript finally settled on "Laughter."
