This is a view of one of the dozen or so towering Ponderosa pines of the local egret rookery as seen from across the park. (The closer photos I've taken are from a trail that winds along behind these trees, but even from this distance the sound is glorious and uncanny.)
There are easily a hundred egrets up there, many of them currently babies or juveniles. There are also at least two great blue heron nests, but those birds blend into the blue-green of the pines more easily so can't be seen at a distance.)
