Nerdy<p>Feel like folks should be more explicit in what player count is best for a <a href="https://kind.social/tags/TTRPG" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TTRPG</span></a> and I don't just mean a range, I mean a specific number, even if it is also playable at a different count.</p><p><a href="https://kind.social/tags/SoloRPG" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SoloRPG</span></a> scene obviously has this on lock, fair bit of Duet/Two-Player games too.</p><p><a href="https://kind.social/tags/TTRPGs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TTRPGs</span></a> <a href="https://kind.social/tags/ttrpgDesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ttrpgDesign</span></a></p>
S. John Ross<p>I'm feeling called to work on The Big List of Stuff to Do today. </p><p>While in my mind, the "star" article in my Trusty GM series is the Action-Mystery article, the Big List of Stuff to Do is likely to garner more attention, if only because it brings me to a trilogy of Big Lists (ironically, Dirty Little Thrills is one I no longer own).</p><p>Resource design is my third-favorite kind of RPG design, but that doesn't mean I don't love it. jewelpit<p>Decided to write down my thoughts on turning combat into a generic extended conflict resolution system: <a href="https://thecloudtender.com/2025/02/17/action-scenes.html" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">thecloudtender.com/2025/02/17/</span><span class="invisible">action-scenes.html</span></a>.</p><p>I'm not entirely pleased with how it turned out, but I'm glad to have it written down.</p><p><a href="https://dice.camp/tags/ttrpg" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ttrpg</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/ttrpgDesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ttrpgDesign</span></a></p>

jewelpit<p>A lot of designers over the last ten years, including myself, have been generalizing abstract extended conflict resolution mechanics to also cover combat.</p><p>For Unnamed, I think I'm gonna go the other way, and generalize combat to cover any extended conflict resolution.</p><p>Will it work? Almost certainly not! But it's a fun problem space to explore.</p><p><a href="https://dice.camp/tags/ttrpg" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ttrpg</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/ttrpgDesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ttrpgDesign</span></a></p>
jewelpit<p>I've removed the "untested" tag on my tarot initiative post, because I've been using it in my solo Dolmenwood game and it's been working well! SAKE │ Rainer Kaasik-Aaslav<p>Really not sure about the back cover blurb. jewelpit<p>Okay, I think I've decided to stick with 2d6 base plus 1d4-1d12 for advantage and equipment, and doing damage as the difference between attack roll and defense (as opposed to doing a Cortex-style "your damage is your third die" thing, which would have required finding a way to get a guaranteed third die, mostly because I don't wanna have to roll four dice and only keep two on every single attack roll or skill check with advantage.</p><p>🧵</p><p><a href="https://dice.camp/tags/ttrpg" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ttrpg</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/ttrpgDesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ttrpgDesign</span></a></p>
jewelpit<p>My current project is doing well in solo playtesting, but it's just not quite gelling with my brain yet. I think I'll have to bring it to the table with other players to get unstuck on this. </p><p><a href="https://dice.camp/tags/ttrpg" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ttrpg</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/ttrpgDesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ttrpgDesign</span></a></p>
Jace 🔥❤️‍🔥💖❤️<p>Note on Natural Language added to my design document.</p><p>All player mechanics should be worded like something their character would say. </p><p>For example, instead of saying “I use shield bash on an enemy within 1m” they would say “I bash the enemy beside me with my shield.”</p><p>Ideally systems should sound diegetic.</p><p>The only exception to this natural language rule is to use existing well known mechanic names for clarity, like health or hit points.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/rpgdesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rpgdesign</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ttrpgdesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ttrpgdesign</span></a></p>
