I hear Codecademy is doing a thing. Let's check out the #accessibility of said thing. in half an hour, I will hop on #twitch and #youtube in order to give their so-called Öperation Codebreaker" a look from a #screenReader perspective. We'll be talking #WCAG, #blindness, #accessible interface design, the works.
See you then over at:

- twitch.tv/IC_Null
- youtube.com/@blindlyCoding
- I'm sure there's a tiktok stream as well but don't go there :P #selfPromo #stream #coding #tech #a11y

TwitchIC_null - TwitchFully blind person hacking, coding and tinkering while using a screen reader. THM, HTB, accessibility, all the things.

Spent a couple hours playing the visual novel Pizza Game. If you're the kind of person who finds bad My Immortal style #fanfic funny, this will work for you. It's fully #screenreader #accessible in the standard #renpy way, but also has descriptions of the visual jokes; the developer spent time thinking about #A11y, and it didn't just happen thanks to the engine. store.steampowered.com/app/710710/Pizza_Game/ #visualnovel

Decided to sign up for #Codeberg, the #GitHub alternative that the Fediverse at large is insisting is worth a try and, in some cases, claiming will improve project contributions by avoiding some of the GH antipatterns. I expected to find some #accessibility issues; this is the modern web, after all.

I did not expect a fully inaccessible visual CAPTCHA with no workarounds. I'm unable to solve it, so I cannot create an account.

In short: If you want people who are #blind or #lowVision to contribute to your projects (you do, right?), Codeberg is currently not an #accessible platform.

#Fedi, looking for people with experience in #accessible software.

I have a friend with serious vision issues. Not blind, but can't easily read text that isn't 6+ inches high, and his vision is degrading. He is looking for a way to deal with email -- he's a writer -- because he says Gmail is now a nightmare to use even with a screen reader.

Preferred solution would be a mail program / #MUA that runs on Windows and supports #OAUTH authentication, so he can continue to use his Gmail address.

What's the MUA with the best #accessibility on Windows? Thunderbird brags about its support for screen readers and assistive technologies, so I had him try it, and he says it's almost as bad as Gmail - flashing colours, animating controls. I haven't personally touched Thunderbird in many years, so it was a surprise to me.

I use a text/console mail flow that relies on a local MTA, so nothing I use is of any use in this.

Thanks, appreciate any pointers.

Today on the IC_Null streams:

- What the hack is #exegol and is it #accessible to #screenReader users?
- How does using #docker to containerize applications influence #accessibility for #assistivetechnology
- Better than running #linux on a #VM for #blind users?

We'll find all this out in about 86 minutes over at twitch.tv/IC_Null and/or youtube.com/@blindlyCoding.

No idea what the shtick here is? I'm a fully blind, screenreader-dependent #IT professional digging into #cybersecurity topics to look at them through the lens of accessibility. Figure that's interesting enough to come watch? I'll happily answer all questions so #ama

@wendypalmer Awww this made me teary. Bless you and keep it up forever in honor of the other great parents who also did such. My parents often read to me out of necessity as not all books were available in #Accessible formats for #Blind children when I was in school. I'm sure often they'd rather have been doing other things but they're gone now and I have memories of precious times spent with them reading all sorts of things.

#Request: My Nord VPN membership is coming to an end soon. I got it at the time as it was an excelent price for basically a 1.5 year membership. What VPN providers are people using that are #accessible across windows and mac, be nice if they were across iOS and to a lesser extent android also. Bonus points if they have a CLI as well.

If you're a #blind user, you should really consider #Kagi for web search. Especially if you pay for chat GPT pro, you can subscribe to Kagi instead for cheaper and get more features. But even if you don't want AI, the search page is #accessible, fast, and light-weight. And unlike other big tech companies (Microsoft and Google) Kagi still offers a cheaper plan with no AI if you don't want it. Also, because they downrank websites with ads, the more accessible results tend to be at the top. Kagi also lets you block domains from your results. So I got rid of inaccessible stuff like instagram and pinterest, and downranked YouTube, because those results aren't usually #screenreader accessible. While I don't agree with many of the opinions of the @kagihq founder (especially his decision to do business with Yandex for image search), I still feel like using Kagi is more ethical than dealing with Google or Bing, and that these are reasonable differences of opinion that reasonable people can have, not just another clownishly evil tech company. I also find the idea that if you're a paying customer, that somehow guarantees the business will treat you better, really strange. I pay a lot to my ISP and they still treat me like dirt! Kagi will almost certainly sell out at some point. But for the moment, it's where it's at for search: www.kagi.com/

www.kagi.comKagi Search - A Premium Search EngineBetter search results with no ads. Welcome to Kagi (pronounced kah-gee), a paid search engine that gives power back to the user.

I share this from time to time not to spam people by any means but rather because I choose to use this service and support it with the power of my purchasing dollars. I first got the 30 day free trial. by the 10th day I subscribed for one year. By day 30 I subscribed for 3 years the longest their subscription runs because I was so pleased with the service. Its web interface is #Accessible for doing administrative things and setting up rules server side. It also works well in third party clients such as #Outlook, #Thunderbird and the native mail app on #iOS. So if anyone's interested in #Fastmail feel free to visit: join.fastmail.com/998bc1c3
