Madleen Gaza flotilla live: Ship, activists being taken to Israel

Israeli commandos have intercepted the Madleen – in international waters – and forced everyone on board to turn off their phones. The Madleen ship, launched by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, is en route to Gaza carrying humanitarian aid to Palestinians starving because of Israel’s months-long total blockade.Israel has besieged Gaza since March 2, and has kept it under a land, sea and air blockade since 2007.Climate activist Greta Thunberg is among the 12 activists on board the vessel. The Madleen departed Sicily on June 1, one month after Israeli drones bombed another aid ship headed for Gaza.Israel has killed more than 54,000 people in Gaza during this war.The 2,000km (1,250-mile) journey is expected to take seven days, provided there are no disruptions. The ship’s location is being monitored live by Forensic Architecture and the use of a Garmin live tracker on board.
‘If you’re watching this, I’ve been kidnapped… we count on you’: Thiago Avila
Brazilian activist Thiago Avila also posted a video he recorded in case of the Madleen being intercepted. In it, he says that if the video is published, then he has been “arrested or kidnapped by Israel or another complicit force”.He went on to call on supporters to pressure his government and the governments of the other activists on board to release them from captivity, sever ties with Israel, end its genocide in Gaza, and lift the siege.

US Muslim group says Israeli attack on Madleen a ‘blatant act’ of piracy
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has condemned Israel seizing the Freedom Flotilla ship and its crew.“We strongly condemn the cowardly and illegal Israeli attack on the Madleen’s as it approached Gaza with desperately-need humanitarian supplies,” said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad.“This is a blatant act of international piracy and state terrorism,” he said.“The Israeli occupation has no legal right to blockade the Gaza coast, much less to drop chemical weapons on humanitarian aid boats and abduct their passengers in international waters,” Awad added.Awad called on the Israeli government to immediately release the ship’s crew.“We applaud Greta Thunberg and the other activists of the Madleen who bravely risked their safety and freedom to help the starving people of Gaza,” he said.
