@JosephMeyer Seattle has had a problem with policing, a #ConsentDecree for many years. I think you are probably right that Minneapolis had unusual scrutiny around the murder of George Floyd. Here, we've had some police who attended the January 6 in the capacity of rebels and a no longer so recent murder of a student via police car. However, I expect Minneapolis and Seattle will feel the #WrathofDT fairly soon and the police will overcompensate. SCouncil wont respond to queries.

Democracy Now!Minneapolis City Council Approves Consent Decree Mandating Federal Oversight of PoliceThe city of Minneapolis has agreed to a federal consent decree mandating reforms to its police department. Under the agreement, Minneapolis must monitor and investigate allegations of police misconduct, limit the use of force, improve officer training and respect protesters’ First Amendment rights. Officials raced to finalize the agreement before Donald Trump’s inauguration, as the former Trump administration opposed the use of consent decrees to reform police departments. The agreement comes more than four-and-a-half years after George Floyd was murdered by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, sparking a global movement for police accountability, prison abolition and racial justice. This comes just days after the Justice Department submitted its proposed consent decree over inhumane and brutal conditions faced by prisoners at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, Georgia. Dozens of prisoners have died there in recent years, including Lashawn Thompson, a Black man who was being held in the jail’s psychiatric wing, where his family says he was “eaten alive” by insects and bedbugs in his cell.

In Five Years, #Chicago Has Barely Made Progress on Its Court-Ordered #Police Reforms. Here’s Why.

Chicago police agreed to judicial oversight in 2019. Since then, a series of mayors and police chiefs let efforts languish and no one in a position of oversight has pushed forcefully to keep the process on track, WTTW News and ProPublica found.

The #FTC’s demands of #OpenAI are the first indication of how it intends to enforce those warnings. If the FTC finds that a company violates #ConsumerProtectionLaws, it can levy #fines or put a business under a #ConsentDecree, which can dictate how the company handles data. The FTC has emerged as the federal government’s top #SiliconValley cop, bringing large fines against #Meta, #Amazon & #Twitter for alleged violations of consumer protection laws.
