Thinking about #SubClub, I belatedly realize it's a huge miss from Mastodon, Misskey and others that they don't have a built-in, Stripe powered "supersub" mode for delivering long post updates to paid followers.
The reason it's a huge miss is that a mere 4-8% commission on the subs would create a revenue model for the server hosts, too. Instead, those same people have to use ko-fi or Patreon now.
Am I missing something obvious with the negative responses to #SubClub? I've seen people being opposed to artists and other creators making any money from their work, ever, is it just more of that?
I love how some people think the world runs on love or something...
Boy, if I could buy food with love, I'd never go hungry cause I love lots of people.
However, that's not reality.
The world runs on money. In that regard, Fedi also runs on money and if Fedi doesn't make money, it dies.
Those of you that are completely against Fedi monetizing in any way, what do you think would make anyone wanna come here over corporate platforms if they cannot make money here?
That's the biggest advantage corporate platforms have over Fedi. They pay their biggest creators/posters.
There needs to be a way for that to happen here or we're just gonna stay stagnant.
I'm not particularly interested in monetization on social media, but will definitely keep an eye on the work that @bart, @quillmatiq, and the rest of the @subclub team are doing in this area.

1860s Classical style warehouse on Jamaica Street in Glasgow, with a cinema inserted into its basement and lower two floors in 1914. This was the Grand Central Cinema, which closed in 1966. It then re-opened as a smaller 'specialist' cinema in 1973, which closed in 1992. The basement became home to Glasgow's legendary Sub Club in 1987, which still operates out of these premises to this day.
I'm trying out sub.club! I will still post my usual content here on AIpub, but if you want to help support my work and get access to exclusive art, head over and sign up at https://sub.club/@pixelworld_ai/subscribe
