i love #Lemmy but some of the 1 to 1 copying of Reddit formats and meme templates is very DR WEIRD; it does not have its own distinct culture yet, but will eventually.
one thing that would change the culture immediately would be: turn off upvotes and downvotes. they're terrible. assigning a ranking to someone's opinion instead of promoting true engagement with the opinion is #DeathOfDiscourse
i'd love to be able to simply #TurnOff this feature for my own community, but don't even have that option.
@buru5 how would you sort? By number of replies? Seems like that would encourage insubstantial replies.
