handmade ghost

I was so drawn in by the peculiar beauty of these snowy egrets by the river yesterday (my first spotting!). They were mixing with the much larger great egrets that I usually watch at this particular hunting ground, and if I'd been in a hurry, I might have missed them. Their movements reminded me of contemporary dancers as they picked their way over the rocks to drum up their breakfasts.

The splashes of taxi yellow stand out weirdly and wonderfully, as though this were an egret in black rights and white tutu taking the stage in bright, elegant galoshes.

Eir long legs are sheathed in black like a pair of tights and are held delicately together until they arrive at first position (modern) in a pair of strong, thin toes planted on the rock like a pair of strange, yellow ballet slippers.
