@engarneering @RickiTarr Oh absolutely. I have voted a few times in my life, and realised that if I don’t go for any of the popular candidates, then my vote’s basically wasted.
@quester @engarneering Yeah I generally vote, but if I feel there is no decent option or at least a lesser evil I leave it blank
@quester @engarneering @RickiTarr One of the most useful modifications any gov could make would be to add a box at the bottom of the ballot labelled "none of the above". This would immediately make clear the distinction between those who cannot be bothered to vote, and those who hate all the options available.
@quester @engarneering @RickiTarr I disagree that a vote for a "minor" candidate or party is wasted, even in a FPTP system. I'm a member of (and been a candidate for) a "major" party and where people sends their votes is closely examined, and parties respond. The votes gained by a far right party in the 90s drew our centre-right "Liberal" party further to the right. Hopefully, the seats they lost to "teal" independents at the last election will bring them back towards the centre.
