That includes the Nancy Grace Roman Space #Telescope, which has been designed to study distant #galaxies & faraway #planets from an orbital outpost about a million miles from Earth. The hardware of the Roman is in place & being integrated & tested at #NASA’s Goddard #Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. The Roman is scheduled to launch as early as Sept 2026.
#Trump’s #budget proposal, though not yet formally submitted to Congress, would eviscerate a long list of #planetary & #astronomical missions, including the next major #NASA #space #telescope & the agency’s goal of bringing samples of #Mars back to Earth to search for signs of ancient life.
NASA’s #astrophysics budget would take a huge hit, dropping from ~$1.5B to $487M. Planetary #science would see a drop from $2.7B to $1.9B. #EarthScience would drop from ~$2.2B to $1.033B.
A new edit & crop of the M51 Whirlpool Galaxy captured with my #Vespera2 #telescope on 28th Feb.
This spiral #galaxy is 31 million light years away and colliding with the Seyfert 2 galactic nucleus.

The ISS Meets #Venus
A video from Shoreline, Washington captured Venus and the ISS in daylight on April 5. Despite appearing similar in size, the ISS is much closer at 400 km away, while Venus is nearly 45 million kilometers distant.

Rounding out the set, here's a capture of the moon with my new mono setup. The sensor is so much smaller on the 585 camera, so I don't need to swap in a Barlow lens for extra magnification. This image was captured using the luminance filter only.

I got a new monochrome astro camera! This means that I use filters to capture the different colors/wavelengths of light and then combine them in post-processing. This image is a broadband image, so I use red, green, blue, and a clear filter called luminance. This is 16 subs on each filter (+ an extra red because I was messing around) for a grand total of 3h15m of exposure time.

38 Hours with the M81 Group
Over 38 hours, a garden #telescope captured the M81 #galaxy group. Dominant M81 boasts spiral arms and a bright core, while cigar-shaped M82 shows intense star formation due to their billion-year gravitational tussle. Eventually, they'll merge into one galaxy. The image also features NGC 3077 and distant integrated flux nebulae from our Milky Way.

New comet discovered that is already an easy object in amateur telescopes, and should brighten for the next 3 - 4 weeks. Get your binoculars and cameras ready.

HH 49: Interstellar Jet from #Webb
James Webb's #infrared image reveals a Herbig-Haro jet (HH 49) from a forming star system, with glowing shock waves. At the jet's tip lies a distant spiral #galaxy, its blue core and circular rings visible behind the interstellar outflow.

The Eyes Galaxies (Arp 120) are a pair of interacting galaxies located in the constellation Virgo, approximately 52 million light-years away. They reach their annual culmination at astronomical midnight and are best observed during spring in the northern hemisphere.

The Fred Young Submillimeter Telescope (FYST) started its journey from Duisburg to the Chilean Atacama Desert in January.
Now it has arrived at the 5600 m high Cerro Chajnantor!
The high-tech telescope has two six-meter mirrors and innovative technology.
