Photo of a pair of tall, slender white herons--great egrets--standing in mirror image of each other, one above and the other, inverted, below. The bird we see above is the reflection of the bird below (the photograph has been posted upside-down). The reflection is stepping forward along a log boom in the green-gold water on delicate black legs and reaching the elegant curve of eir neck down towards eir twin below until their bills seem almost to touch, wings tucked against their bodies. The log boom bisects the picture, which, besides the egret(s), is a misty glow of green-gold river as seen through a veil of mist and midges so small they seem like stars. The reflection's body is almost indistinguishable from the other, but it is less solid somehow, crossed by dozens of horizontal threads of rippled water that shimmers behind em. Below, the upside-down egret is almost ready to break through the water.
