Recommendations for a first RPG for a 9 year old? She likes fantasy and reading, so I think she'd like RPGs, but she also (1) likes games very easy, (2) dislikes pixel art, and (3) dislikes being forced to be male.

I'm thinking either Pokemon Shinning Pearl or Destiny Connect: Tick Tock Travelers.

@scribblemacher - I second all the votes for Pokémon and for Monster Hunter Stories. But I would also encourage asking: What games are the kids at school talking about? At this age (3rd grade or so), talking about games/playing pretend/drawing stuff with friends was a big part of the fun for my kids.

@NullNoMore This is a great point. Pretty much all of her friends play Animal Crossing (which she has played to death) and Kirby and the Forgotten Land (also played to death). She says lots of kids in class are into Minecraft, but when I let her try another first person game (Portal) she had a lot of trouble with the controls and moving two sticks at once (beasted pretty far into it though!)

@scribblemacher - I asked Youngest (now in high school) - they suggest Miitopia, Arceus, and Pioneers of Olive Town (and Minecraft but not on Switch)
