A #British fashion and lifestyle magazine found itself in the middle of a #SocialMedia storm after introducing an #AI with an #Arabic name and appearance as their newest “editor” this week.

#SheerLuxe shared pictures of Reem, who they said was an “AI enhanced team member” on their #Instagram page in a post that included a “selfie” of the AI with the editor-in-chief, an outfit of the day snapshot complete tagged brandnames, Reem’s “lunch”, and a peek at the contents of “her” purse and desk setup.

The #OnlinePublication came under fierce #criticism from its audience, who questioned the ethics of “hiring” an #AIstaff member in a period when #journalists and other #MediaProfessionals face threats to their livelihoods due to the technology.

They also expressed frustration at what they said was a deliberate choice to use the name and likeness of a #WomanOfColour in an industry where they are already #underrepresented.

20 #Books to #Read This #LatinxHeritageMonth—And Beyond.

If we’re being honest, the #diversity within the #publishing industry is abysmal at best. (We’re still not quite over the #trauma #porn #fiasco of 2018.) Despite being the fastest growing demographic in the United States, the #Latinx population is vastly #underrepresented in the #literary #arts.

I want to give a HUGE shout out to all the women/nonbinary engineers and engineering leaders out there. And a big high five to all the Black and Hispanic men and other underrepresented minorities in tech. In fact in all of STEM.

You buoy me and us. You lift us up. I wouldn’t be here without you forging the way. Your mere existence in this space is a blessing.

THANK YOU ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

I'm grateful for a home in the #fediverse so here's my #introduction. I've survived 25 years in #InformationTechnology and work for a leader in #opensource as the #manager of a diverse #documentation team. My mission is to center #underrepresented and #underestimated voices and bring #DEI and #antiracist practices to work.

I am grateful for a space moderated by folks that understand #caste #racism and #sexism and #whitecentering.
